Terms of use
Portion gives you estimates, not medical advice. Portion Free is generous but limited — please use it fairly. Your meals are yours.
1Agreeing to these terms
You agree to these terms and to our privacy policy when you sign in and create your Portion account; the sign-in screen says so and links to both. Using Portion after that is also agreement. Portion is made by TripleFour. Until TripleFour is registered, Portion is run by an individual developer based in the United Arab Emirates — “we” and “us” in these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Portion.
2Who can use Portion
You need to be at least 18 to use Portion. You need an Apple or Google account to use it.
3Test and release versions
Portion may be offered through Apple’s TestFlight before or alongside an App Store release. Features may change, stop working or be removed, and data could be lost — back up your log from Profile from time to time. TestFlight builds expire under Apple’s rules.
4Estimates, not medical advice
Calorie and nutrient estimates are approximate and can be wrong, sometimes by a lot. Targets come from standard formulas and are general guidance, not a medical plan. Portion doesn’t diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Talk to a doctor before changing how you eat — especially if you’re pregnant, or live with diabetes, an eating disorder or another medical condition. Never rely on Portion in an emergency.
5Portion Free
Portion Free currently includes 5 photo estimates and 20 typed estimates a day, with a fresh allowance every morning at 4:00, your local time. We may change the limits, pause Portion Free or end it; where we can, we’ll tell you in the app first.
Please don’t try to get around the limits — for example by scripting requests, modifying the app or using several accounts. We may suspend access if you do.
6Portion Pro and the waitlist
Portion Pro doesn’t exist yet. Joining the waitlist is free and commits you to nothing. It doesn’t guarantee that Pro will launch, when, or at what price — the prices we ask about are for research.
7Your content
The photos, descriptions and feedback you give us stay yours. You allow us to use them only to run Portion — including, once you’ve agreed, sending meal photos and descriptions to Google Gemini for estimates. If you send us ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
8Using Portion fairly
Please don’t use Portion to:
- break the law;
- upload other people’s private images without their permission;
- try to get into other people’s accounts or our systems;
- reverse engineer or overload the service, except where the law allows it.
9Your personal data
What Portion collects, why, where it is stored and the rights you have over it are set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. Portion is run from the United Arab Emirates. The plan you build includes health data, so we ask for your explicit consent before saving it to your account; you can withdraw that consent by deleting your account. We aim to handle personal data in accordance with the law that applies, without taking away any right the law gives you.
10What’s ours to answer for, and what’s yours
We decide what Portion collects and why, so under the Personal Data Protection Law we are the controller of it and answerable for it. That is a short list, and the privacy policy names all of it: your account and its email, the plan you build, anything you send with feedback, and your place on the Pro waitlist if you ask for one.
Two things are not ours. Your meals, photos and weigh-ins live on your iPhone, in your own backup — we never receive them, cannot read them and cannot get them back for you if you lose the phone; export your log from Profile from time to time. And what you choose to put into Portion is yours to stand behind: don’t photograph someone else’s face or private information, don’t log another person’s health details without their say-so, and if you use Portion at work or with clients, meeting whatever rules apply to you is your responsibility, not ours.
If we ever ask you for something we don’t need, tell us and we’ll stop asking.
11Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google, and you’re responsible for keeping that account secure. You can delete your Portion account at any time in the app. This deletes the personal data linked to it from active systems; provider backup copies may take longer to disappear, as the privacy policy explains. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
12Other services
Portion relies on Apple, Google and Resend. Their own terms apply to their services. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for outages or acts of those services that are outside our control.
13Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for Portion or its content and has no obligation to support it. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no warranty obligation for Portion and isn’t responsible for claims relating to it, including product liability, consumer protection or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you’re not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo, and aren’t on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
14No guarantees
Portion is provided “as is”. Test versions are unfinished. To the extent the law allows, we don’t promise that Portion will be accurate, continuously available or free of errors.
15Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the past 12 months or USD 50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited.
16Ending
You can stop using Portion at any time. We may end a test, the service or your access to it. Parts of these terms that should last beyond that — such as the limits on liability — do.
17Law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and disputes are subject to the courts of Dubai. If you’re a consumer, you keep any mandatory protection given to you by the law where you live.
18Changes
We’ll update the date at the top when these terms change, and tell you in the app before a significant change takes effect. Using Portion after that means you accept the new terms.
